Board Statement on the Retirement of CEO, Anna Kear

“It’s hard to put into words just how much of an impact Anna Kear has had on Tonic. As she steps down as CEO, we want to celebrate her extraordinary leadership and the incredible legacy she leaves behind.

When Anna joined, Tonic was an ambitious vision—today, thanks to her drive and dedication, we have 19 fully occupied LGBTQ+ affirming homes, including two affordable rental apartments, creating a thriving and supportive community. She played a pivotal role in securing the crucial GLA loan, navigating complex regulations, and ensuring that Tonic’s mission reached the mainstream, putting older LGBTQ+ people firmly on the housing agenda.

Anna’s passion, resilience, and unwavering commitment have shaped Tonic into the strong, pioneering organisation it is today. While we will deeply miss her, we know she leaves us in a strong position. The Board, alongside the fantastic Tonic team, will carry forward her vision, building on the foundations she has so brilliantly laid.

Anna, we cannot thank you enough for everything you have done. You have transformed lives, and your impact will be felt for years to come. We wish you the very best in whatever comes next—you will always be a part of the Tonic family!”

A message from Anna:

“I have some exciting news to share about my forthcoming retirement. I will be leaving Tonic at the end of March, after nearly 7 years as the first CEO.

I am hugely proud of the part I have played in creating the UK's first LGBTQ+ affirming retirement community in central London. Tonic@Bankhouse is now fully occupied, with the GLA loan repaid in full, creating almost £3 million of assets for the LGBTQ+ community with an ongoing rental income to cover the basic running costs. Much of the work that I have overseen to get Tonic to this point has now come to a natural end, however I will be working to ensure a smooth transition in the coming weeks as I handover to the team and board. I very much hope that Tonic will grow to have even greater impact and create more LGBTQ+ affirming retirement communities in future.

Thank you so much for your support over the years. It has been a real privilege in this role to get to know so many amazing people. It really does take a village and Tonic is a testament to community power!

I am looking forward to my next chapter, starting with a road trip through Europe in my campervan!

With love, Anna x”
