Tonic featured in British Vogue
British Vogue has featured many of the most iconic figureheads and luxury brands across fashion, lifestyle and culture since 1916. It also has a rich LGBT+ history. In 1922, Dorothy Todd, an out gay woman entering her forties, described as 'full of energy, full of genius' by writer Rebecca West; became the second editor of British Vogue.
In recent years, their Pride covers have included LGBT+ icons Laverne Cox and Cara Delevingne, with contributing editors including the likes of Munroe Bergdorf and Paris Lees.
Its audience reaches over 10 million people globally, and it is widely renowned as one of the world's most prominent fashion magazines.
So imagine our elation when we were approached by the team at Condé Nast to ask us to feature in British Vogue’s Pride Edition 2023!
The legendary photographer behind this campaign, Tim Walker, curated a line-up of his perspective on Queer culture in 2023. This collection is made up of a series of iconic portraits of all generations of the LGBTQ+ community. To hear that Tim was a huge fan of our work and that he wanted to include Tonic Housing warmed our hearts and minds to say the least.
Tim and the team at Condé Nast came along to Tonic@Bankhouse and captured the very heart and essence of what we strive to achieve at Tonic: community, pride and belonging.
This beautiful photograph features two of our sensational community members, Willie and Ted. They are joining hands in the UK’s first LGBT+ affirming retirement community, a symbol of connection, shared experience and mutual understanding, of almost 90 years lived throughout turbulent LGBT+ history.
We want to say a huge thank you to Tim, his crew and British Vogue for giving us the opportunity to shine a light on Tonic Housing and our community at Tonic@BankHouse.
